Hello! My name is Mary, I am 22 years old and I am teaching in Lockhart Academy since January. Right now, I am teaching in l’Arrabassada School but I wish I can get to know more students soon. I am an English philologist, specialized in English literature and culture and I am complementing my studies with a masters on Humanities.
I have always known that I wanted to become a teacher. I think that teaching is a wonderful experience, not only because you can share knowledge, but also because you can share values. While I was at college, I had the opportunity to take part in a project with the purpose of teaching teenagers at risk of social exclusion. The months I spent with them made me realize that the traditional teaching methods were out-of-date. Our task as teachers is to find an alternative and to create a good environment where students can feel comfy and take advantage of the learning experience as much as they can.
I love languages. I speak English, Catalan and Spanish. I know a bit of French and German and I would like to learn Italian and Portuguese in the future. In fact, I consider myself a strong defender of multiculturalism. I think that knowing new cultures and languages is a great way to get to find and to know ourselves.
In my spare time, I am usually dancing. In 2009, I set up a dancing group that is still working. Moreover, I am an aspiring author so I like reading and writing, especially fiction for young adult readers and children stories. I also like blogging, yoga and I am a cinema enthusiast.
Nice to meet you!
